English must be taken each semester, except the summer, until this requirement is completed. ENGL 1010-ENGL 1020 may not be dropped. Correspondence credit in ENGL 1010-ENGL 1020 will not be accepted.
The prerequisite for ENGL 1020 is a grade of C or better in ENGL 1010, and the prerequisite for a 2000-level English course is a grade of C or better in ENGL 1020. If a transfer student has completed two semesters of composition and has a grade of D in ENGL 1020, then the student must repeat ENGL 1020 before beginning the literature courses. ESL classes do not satisfy the ENGL 1010 and ENGL 1020 communication requirement of the general education core, nor do these courses count toward any degree requirements.
Any general education Mathematics course. MATH 1010 - Math for General Studies recommended.
All students must complete six hours of Historical Foundations except those students who are majoring in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, General and Mechanical Engineering. If the student has not completed one unit of American History in high school, the student will be required to complete 6 semester hours of Historical Foundations for the deficiency.
SOC 3620 is also cross-listed with CJ3620 and SW3620.
SOC 2010 is also cross-listed with CJ2010 and SW2010.
CJ/SOC/SW Electives (18 hours)
Complete 18 hours in CJ, SOC, or SW electives. A minimum of15 hours must be taken at the 3000-4000 level.
Foreign Language (3 hours):
FREN 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020 or
GERM 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020 or
SPAN 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020
The minimum is a course in a specific language. None of the "Country and the People" courses are acceptable.
Philosophy/Social Science Electives (9 hours):
Complete six hours from ANTH, CJ, ECON, GEOG, HIST, PHIL, POLS, PSY, SOC, or SW electives.
Additional free electives are required to complete 120 earned hours.
The MSW Pathway combines the 15-hour requirement of the Social Work minor with the option of taking an additional graduate-level through the Request for Graduate Course for Undergraduate or Graduate Credit option. Students register for the 5000-level sections of the dual credit courses, and, during their last semester, they can complete a graduate-level course. The graduate level course will not be part of their undergraduate program of study.

For students to participate in the MSW Pathway, they will submit a formal application to the Department of Sociology and Political Science during their junior year. The application includes
· Verification of a cumulative 3.0 GPA
· Two letters of recommendation from faculty familiar with their academic performance
· A brief essay addressing their interest in the social work profession and future graduate study in the MSW program.
Successful applications must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA, two positive recommendations from faculty members, and a compelling essay explaining their interest in the social work profession and future graduate study in the MSW program.
Admission to the MSW Pathway will not guarantee admission to the MSW program at Tennessee Tech. However, if a student is later accepted into the MSW program, the 5000-level courses completed with a minimum grade of “B” through the MSW Pathway (up to 9 credit hours) will be fully applied to their graduate degree requirements.
A total of 120 hours is required for graduation with a minimum of 36 hours at the upper division level.
