Completion requirement

Complete all the following requirements:

  • One 6000-level Literature course

    When necessary, a committee of the instructor of record, the department chair, and the graduate advisor will determine how a course fits into the existing curriculum.

Complete three courses from among the following (must take 5000-level in dual-listed courses).

  • course Creative Writing Workshop 3 credit hours

  • course Writing Craft 3 credit hours

  • course Internship 3 credit hours OR any PC/ENGL 5000/6000-level course 3credit hours

  • Students with assistantships take course as part of the concentration courses. Students who do not have an assistantship take 3 hours of any PC/ENGL 5000/6000-level courses.

Student may choose to complete 6 hours of course OR complete ENGL6005 course, 3 hours, and course, 3 hours.

The following courses may be taken at the 5000 level by a graduate student who has previously taken the course as an undergraduate, provided the content is different.  Applicable courses include:

  • ENGL 5210 18th Century British Lit

  • ENGL 5250 Post-Modern Literatures

  • ENGL 5310 Early American Literature

  • ENGL 5330 Modern American Literature

  • ENGL 5430 Creative Writing: Fiction

  • ENGL 5440 Creative Writing: Essay

  • ENGL 5450 Creative Writing: Poetry

  • ENGL 5610 Novel

  • ENGL 5630 Literary Criticism and Theory

  • ENGL 5650 The Graphic Novel

  • ENGL 5712 African American Literature

  • ENGL 5713 Native American Literature

  • ENGL 5931 Lit and the Environment

  • ENGL 5970 Professional Comm II

  • PC 5850 Internship

  • PC 5940 Technical Editing

  • PC 5970 Professional Comm II

  • PC 5990 Bus/Grant Proposal Writing

Courses may be repeated one time by a graduate student, provided the content is different.  Applicable courses include:

  • ENGL 6020 Seminar in Early British Lit

  • ENGL 6080 Sem in British Lit/1500-1650

  • ENGL 6150 Sem in British Lit/1650-1800

  • ENGL 6400 Special Topics
